Nutritional Therapy

Nutritional therapy is the application of nutrition and health science to enable individuals to maximise their health potential. Nutritional therapy can help alleviate a wide range of conditions and support recovery from ill health.

Nutritional therapists recognise that each person is an individual with unique dietary and nutritional requirements. These requirements depend on a number of factors, ranging from inherited strengths and weaknesses to lifestyle and environment. Nutritional therapists work with the client to assess nutritional status and functional capacity in order to manage chronic health problems and advise on disease prevention.

The nutritional therapist will take a comprehensive client history, and may use biochemical and other types of clinical assessment to formulate an individualised nutritional therapy programme.

Inappropriate diet, stress, poor digestion, malabsorption, and inadequate toxin elimination can manifest in many symptoms of ill-health and disease. The nutritional therapist will work with the individual to achieve a tailored approach in order to promote control over their own health outcomes.

Nutritional therapy can work well alongside other therapies and orthodox medical treatment.

The consultation process

Consultations with Lesley Harper can take place at either Exeter’s Natural Health Centre or The Estuary Clinic in Topsham, by appointment only. Lesley is able to offer appointments Monday to Friday.

Before your appointment you will be asked to complete and return a case history form and food and drink diary. Completing these beforehand allows Lesley to make the most of your consultation time.

Your first nutritional therapy session will take approximately an hour and a quarter. At this appointment Lesley will clarify the terms of engagement with you; including any agreements you wish to make with regards to contact with other health professionals (e.g. your GP, or other therapists).

Follow-up appointments last up to one hour and are usually recommended for 4-6 weeks later in order to monitor progress and modify recommendations if required.

Consultations are £60.00.

Contact Lesley directly to arrange an appointment at a time that suits you.

Occasionally testing may also be recommended in order to build a clearer picture of your current health. The tests can usually be carried out in your own home and will be processed by private laboratories. They will incur an additional charge. All tests are entirely optional.

At the end of the consultation you will provided with a set of recommendations. Should you need to clarify any details after you consultation, Lesley is happy to be contacted by either telephone or e-mail to ensure that you get the most from the process.

Additional services

Educational group sessions for friends and families can also be arranged. Why not talk to Lesley about receiving advice on healthy eating for the family, understanding food labels and how to get the best out of your food shop.
